Punk band Gogol Bordello songs Combining elements of punk, gypsy music and cabaret, Gogol Bordello tells the story of New York's immigration diaspora through debauchery, humor and surreal costumes. In the music of vocalist and singer Yevgeny Hutz, black rhythms came out at the "Birthday" party and "Einstürzende Neubauten" in his native Ukraine.
After being evacuated to Western Ukraine in 1986 after the Chernobyl disaster, Huetz fell in love with mystical gypsy music. Living as a refugee in Poland, Hungary, Austria and Italy before moving to the United States in 1993, he lived a life of complete solitude, without the support of friends and family.
After visiting New York, he teamed up with guitarist Vlad Solofar and drummer Sasha Kazachk. American Eliot Fergüsen added a strong rock sound to the drums, and the band was also supplemented by Sergei Ryabtsev, a violin, a former theater director from Moscow whose past experience will be useful in the future in creating Gogol Bordello's quirky stage shows (for example, the tale of super-powerful immigrants Ukrainian vampires ).
The band's early concerts included live gypsy music at Russian weddings, but their music soon morphed into hyper kinetic explosions that earned them a solid position among New York City's urban hipsters. The band released a single in 1999 called Gogol Bordello, which was soon followed by the debut full-length Voi-La Intruder, which was released by Nick Cave & Bad Seeds drummer Jim Sklavunos. Solofar and Kazachkov were replaced by accordionist Yuri Lemeshev, who hails from the Russian island of Sakhalin, and two Israelis, guitarist Oren Kaplan and saxophonist Ori Kaplan, who, despite their similar names, were not related.
Hütz helped to raise the popularity of the group, which became one of the famous bands in the city, partly due to the success after his performance in the Bulgarian club / restaurant / bar Mehanata, where they played Ukrainian, gypsy flamenco music for a crowd of artists, models, Ukrainians, Russians, gypsies and Bulgarians who love wild dancing. In the spring of 2002, Gogol Bordello embarked on a European tour and performed at the Whitney Biennale, bringing his music to a whole new audience.
The band Gogol Bordello released their fourth studio album Super Taranta in 2007 with sufficient success. which marked the beginning of further creative growth.
Members of Gogol Bordello also starred in films. In 2006, their song "Start Wearing Purple" was featured in the movie "It's All Lit" (starring Elijah Wood and Eugene Hutz), bringing their music even more to the US audience.
Gogol Bordello appeared in Madonna's first short film as director Phil and Wisdom. Evgeny Hutz should play one of the main roles. The band contributed three original songs to the soundtrack.
Their music has also been featured in the film Wristcutters: Love Story and Eugene, founded and written in part by Eugene Hutz.
